Report; Bureau, Odishabarta
ANGUL: Angul police today arrested a youth who had been allegedly duping people posing as an IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer.
The arrested youth Suryakant Dehuri has deceived many people from Talcher, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Bolangir pretending to be a 2006 batch IAS officer and an additional secretary in the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development, police said.
Interestingly, the accused could dare to build rapport with the district Collector Aravind Agrawal, a 2007 batch IAS officer, by interacting with him on phone on many occasions introducing himself as the administrator’s senior.
Dehuri’s audacity, however, ended in his arrest after Agrawal suspected him and a plot was designed to nab him.Accordingly, Dehuri was invited to the collector’s residential office to attend a tea party on Friday evening and police caught him as soon as he reached there.
“He (Dehuri) has been jailed many times in the past for cheating people. He had promised one Abinash Samal to get his work done from the collector in return of money. He has also opened fake account on Facebook identifying himself as an IAS officer,” Angul police station IIC Subha Narayan Muduli said.
Dehuri, on the other hand, confessed to his crime in front of media and said he repented for it.
